Is it always relaxing in Mexico? The first time it happened I nearly fell off the bed with the jarring noise coming from outside! Somebody in the small town was driving through the streets early in the morning with a megaphone on top of a small car advertising propane gas. Later the same day someone went by advertising eggs and produce in the same way. This happened over and over as we traveled through Mexico’s small towns. Dogs barking, fireworks exploding, horses galloping, roosters crowing right outside the door. Eventually I began to find ...

As you might imagine, we’ve traveled to Mexico a lot in the last 15 years. Some of our visits to Mexico have been more relaxing than others. The month we spent in San Miguel de Allende was mostly about rest, relaxation and enjoyment of the culture. That was an unforgettable, exciting, beautiful visit. Many other trips to Mexico have been about a jam-packed agenda, many meetings and multiple cities in one trip.  … dealing with lots of traffic, lots of visits to artisan workshops, fabric suppliers, delivery companies. We try to manage to at ...

At the turn of a new year, I get excited to find out what the new interior design and furniture trends will be. I'm not sure if it is because by that time most of the USA is parched for color, for the flowers and the birds to return with the spring, or simply because I love perusing the changes, the trends, and what it could mean about our societies. For me, color, design and new style trends are some of the most fun aspects of owning Gringo Furniture. Other than the chance to travel to Mexico, that is, but for obvious reasons that oppo...

One of the joys we find in our Gringo Furniture business is the ability to travel while we work … and to work while we travel. We have had some amazing trips to Mexico throughout the years, including our exciting and beautiful month in San Miguel de Allende last year. Part of the fun of it was getting furniture inspiration, meeting new artisans, enjoying sights, new food and making new friends. It’s probably what you enjoy as well, when you travel to Mexico or decide to buy a home in Mexico. Our business allows us to work hard and ...

This Mexican election had people mobilized and hopeful like no other. Change was in the air, and it seemed palpable. Social media was abuzz with posts and communications. People just seemed to be more engaged than ever before. For certain it is an interesting time in the history of Mexico and for those of us who travel often to Mexico or have homes or vacationing properties there, Mexican elections are extremely relevant. Earlier in the week, Mexican expats living in the United States were quoted on interviews saying they thought v...

This morning, thanks to our friends at Yucatan Living, I was delighted to find out about a lovely Harper's Bazaar article featuring Merida. How exciting! I knew right away I had to share it with our Gringo Furniture contacts. I will always remember the first time we visited Merida and what a sweet impression it made on us. In a sense it is one of those places that is out of time ... yes, there is a certain and very charming timelessness to Merida. We have told you about this gorgeous city on previous posts. It is a friendly city with ...

By now I am sure you know we are partial to the hacienda architecture style and furnishings. Well, we recently added some gorgeous and exciting pieces to our Hacienda Collection. I finished writing copy for the various products just a few weeks ago and already these pieces have captivated clients and created some great buzz -- music to my ears! It just occurred to me that we should introduce them more directly here on our blog so that it is easier for you to find them. If you like what you see and it captures your imagination, please give ...

Over the years, we've worked hard to find the best way to handle furniture delivery costs. Mexico is a big country. Shipping and delivery charges in Mexico actually vary wildly. However, one of the benefits of having been in business for over ten years is that GringoFurniture has delivered furniture to just about to every corner of Mexico.  We've worked with and sifted through numerous shipping and delivery companies.  The several that we've retained are trustworthy, thorough, and they specialize in furniture delivery. We have develo...

I am a very lucky person. Every week I get to talk about great Mexican furniture with clients who have purchased a home or condo in Mexico and are soon moving there. The moving to Mexico trend continues and it is not about to go away. American and Canadian Expats love their Mexican lifestyle because it allows many of them to “retire without retiring,” start living their life of adventure, and start living the life of their dreams. 1.Most Americans move to Mexico for the lifestyle The International Community Foundation surveyed 840 Americ...

It is true that if you are living year round in Mexico, you are probably not as hungry for color right about now as we are in the U.S. or Canada. Still, spring is a beautiful time of year wherever you live or work. Right now I am completely eager for color, for bright things, for opportunities to spruce up and to bring in new accents into our home décor. Pantone’s Color of the year for 2014 is Radiant Orchid, a lovely lilac/pink tone which reminds me of my teenage years. As a teenager I had a radiant orchid shag carpet in my bedroom and my pare...
